Originally from Southeastern Virginia, Ms. Simms moved to the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area to attend George Mason University, where she earned a Bachelor’s degree in Government and International Politics. After working in the DC area, she decided to pursue a career in law and relocated to Florida in order to attend the St. Thomas University School of Law. After graduating in 2010 with her Juris Doctor, Ms. Simms decided to make south Florida her permanent home.
A Persistent Litigator in Matters Both Large and Small
After graduating law school, Ms. Simms took a job as an Assistant State Attorney in the 17th Judicial Circuit of Florida, where she worked from 2011 to 2017. During her time at the State Attorney’s Office, she steadily rose through the ranks handling both misdemeanor and felony cases. She would eventually be promoted to the “Ten-Twenty-Life” Division, where she handled cases involving the discharge of a firearm in the commission of a felony.
Ultimately, she took more than 30 cases to jury trial. Whether it was a misdemeanor trespassing case, a high-profile DUI case, or charges involving attempted first-degree murder with a firearm, Ms. Simms repeatedly demonstrated that she was an aggressive and persistent litigator determined to see her cases through to the end.
Not Just a Lawyer, But a Manager and a Mentor
During her State Attorney’s Office tenure, Ms. Simms was promoted to a supervisor in the Misdemeanor Unit. In this role, Ms. Simms developed and honed her management skills, training, mentoring, and providing oversight to newly hired attorneys. She not only helped her attorneys learn how to be trial lawyers but taught them essential skills that would make them effective advocates. Ms. Simms’s dedication to working with and mentoring new attorneys has helped her develop the team of attorneys that forms the foundation of Rubinton Simms, PA.
Ms. Simms Joins the Rubinton Team
In 2017, Ms. Simms left the State Attorney’s Office. She joined Rubinton & Associates as an associate; was quickly promoted to partner; then took on the role of Managing Partner as we grew to become Rubinton || Simms, PA.
Ms. Simms core practice includes defending insurers against residential and commercial first-party property claims. Even though there are typically significant amounts of money at stake in her cases, Ms. Simms focuses first on doing what is right for her clients. Her vast trial experience and courtroom skills, coupled with extended experience with client advocacy, makes her a unique and exceptional representative for her clients regardless of the size of the case.
